My award goes to....

Is a tough desicion to choose one designer, and the best of them, because are vast as ways of thinking. I can mention a few contemporary designers, who has been distinguished by his creations like Philippe Starck, Bruno Munari, Alessandro Mendini, Karim Rashid, Dieter Rams, Giorgetto Giugiaro or architects who has contributed to enrich this discipline like Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe, and so forth; They are well known famous designers, but everyday are emerging new designers or design companies which are making significant creations everywhere just one click away, for example, today with the web interaction new sites come up showing arts and crafts like notcot or yanko_design, where good design shows up, as powerful as creations of mentioned famous designers, however the names behind these designs many times are unknown but great, sometimes far better than ones considered "the elite".

So, the title of "the best designer" changes every second, all over the world; the real challenge is to think and act as the best, not just to get prized but to be worthy.

My Fav Building...

One of my favourites buildings Is the Bahrain World Trade Center, because its way to self-generate energy. Is the first building that uses an integrated eolic system to provide an important percentage of energy (11~15%), in numbers 1100 to 1300 megawatt-hours per year, this means provide enough energy for 300 homes for over a year.

The eolic system was developed by Danish engineers, according to the building design. The complex has two towers, both shaped to allow wind to pass through and power three 29 meter diameter wind turbines, which was tested for three years to insure its functionality. Today these turbines are working perfectly.

The towers was designed and developed by the consultancy firm Atkins, related to several mega-projects as the DSEC Commercial Tower, Trump International Hotel & Tower and the Dubai metro, to name a few.

It’s good to observe how engineering met design, also enjoy its results.

Favorite_Web_Site

I actually have a lot of favorite web sites, but related to design i can mention notcot, mocoloco, inhabitat, yankodesign and designboom. My first access to a design site was proposed by my taller's teacher in 2002, and it was designboom. I often visit this site searching design contests, interviews with important designers, news and links to other design sites. Generaly the design sites are linked each other, this fact allow the discovering of new sites such as the aforementioned.

One of the most important excercise of a designer is to been up-to-date of design universe, and this pages in some way aids to do it, sometimes is hard to handle all the upcoming information about the world of design, but these pages filter some of the best practices, making easy to know what is happening and where happens.

Also i visit automotive pages, specially ones about motorcycles and new ways of transpotation.

Victorycities...

It seems to be an ambicious project, wich could be constructed, but the main focus is the city itself. I THINK that this victory cities are designed thinking in the optimal-functionality of a city and the future citizens are just an add-on whose has to obey certain rules, as you can see in the cafeteria image. Cities are made for citizens, not vice-versa.

Another important issue are plans and the main idea of a city, it was made on 80's and it has an old-futuristic aspect and technology according that years.

However, today we can find projects of "dream cities"wich are in construction or planing to be constructed, and have as main focus be a self-sustainable city i.e. Norman Foster's Masdar or Rem Koolhas' Ras Al Kharimah Eco City. These projects are as ambicious as the victory_cities, the difference between them is these cities are 100% constructable and were developed by modern studies using cuting edge technology.
